The Soaring Spirit Community
Knitting for Peace
Are you a knitter looking to become part of a community and give something back? Or have you wanted to learn to knit but didn't have anyone to teach you? Well, here is your chance! Join us at Soaring Spirit starting Sunday, October 4th at 5:00pm for a community knitting circle - knitting for peace and charity. Take your yoga off your mat and into the world by practicing seva. Seva" (Say-va) is a sanskrit word meaning selfless service. Through various forms of service one ignites the fire of transformation. The light and energy of which is spread throughout the universe.
For our first project we will be working on the Warm Up America Afghan from the book Knitting for Peace - Making the World a Better Place One Stitch at a Time by Betty Christiansen. This is an easy project, perfect for beginners and seasoned knitters alike. When the "patches" of the afghan are complete we will stitch together the love and spirit of our community and donate the afghan to a child at Potomac Hospital’s Pediatric Care Unit.
So whether you an experienced knitter or have never even held knitting needles, come be part of our community as we work the powerful magic of knitting for others!
Supplies needed: Size 7 standard length knitting needles
If you wish to donate some yarn for the project: Soft fun/bright colored acrylic yarn (3.5oz) would be greatly appreciated!
Soaring Spirit will provide tasty snacks and tea/water.
