Class Descriptions

All Levels

Challenging but less strenuous than vinyasa class, all levels classes are designed to move the student through a flowing sequence to investigate the connection between breath, movement and mind. May include sun salutations, backbends, arm balances as well as more advanced breathing and meditation techniques.

Lunch Time Yoga

A well rounded one hour yoga class designed to release tension, sharpen focus and lift your spirits so you are ready to face the rest of your day. Appropriate for all levels.

Restore and Renew

Melt away your stress and nurture your soul in a Restore and Renew class! Progress in your yoga practice doesn’t always occur by “doing”. An equally important aspect of yoga practice is the ability to let go, to not control, to experience what is without interfering. Recharge your energy reserves and heal the effects of stress, bringing about conscious relaxation. Props often used and poses held for several minutes to restore your mind and body connection. Often incorporates Yin Yoga and Self-Awakening Yoga techniques. Appropriate for all levels.

Hot Yoga

A “sweatastic” yoga class practiced in a heated room with added humidity to release toxins and purify body and mind. Blends strength, flexibility, endurance, balance and includes a challenging abdominal workout. Appropriate for all levels. Please bring water, a large bath-sized towel and a small towel to class.

Hot Yoga Bootcamp

Similar to our Hot Yoga class, this yoga class is also practiced in a heated room with added humidity to release toxins and purify body and mind. Blends strength, flexibility, endurance, balance and includes a challenging abdominal workout. Hand weights are incorporated to tone muscles as well! Appropriate for all levels of yoga, but some level of fitness recommended. Please bring water, two sets of handweights (3-4 lbs and 5-8lbs) a large bath-sized towel and a small towel to class.

Yoga Fundamentals

Begin to build the foundation for your yoga practice or come in to refine and tune up your current practice. Designed to increase flexibility, strength and balance with a focus on alignment and breath. Includes standing and seated postures as well as basic backbends and twists. Prenatal/Postnatal

For expectant mothers at all stages of pregnancy and all levels of yoga experience. Postnatal moms welcome too! Obtain optimal health during pregnancy or post pregnancy and ease recovery from childbirth. Prenatal/Postnatal yoga will assist students in strengthening the uterus and pelvic muscles, improve circulation, aid in digestion, exercise the spine and increase overall comfort.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga shares the same goals as other forms of yoga but involves a slower and more meditative pace to target the body’s connective tissues such as the ligaments, tendons, joints and bones. Yin is gentle but intense and helps the student to open the body, cultivate the ability of observation and stay with sensation with a quiet attitude of acceptance. Yin provides a perfect balance to an active or Yang practice as it goes beneath the superficial muscles to areas which are difficult to open and release. Appropriate for all levels. Vinyasa

A moving meditation combining breath and movement through a steady and vigorous sequence of poses. Vinyasa (also referred to as “flow” or “power” yoga) is a popular and evolving form of traditional hatha yoga that focuses on integrating breath with movement, awareness with alignment and strength with flexibility bringing the student’s intention off the mat and into daily life. Typically includes sun salutations, backbends, arm balances and an inversion. Yoga experience is encouraged and helpful for this level class.

Expanded Vinyasa

A challenging and invigorating class for the experienced yogi to delve deeper into an asana practice. Presumes students are familiar with intermediate yoga postures and includes creatively adapted sun saluations, arm balances, backbends and inversions for a well-rounded and energizing practice. Previous vinyasa experience recommended and required.

Mom & Baby Yoga

For newborns to crawling age, a perfect yoga class doe moms to come back to their mats with their little ones! A place to reconnect with body, breath and spirit.

Self Awakening Yoga (SAY)

Yogic methodology developed by Don Stapleton based on the fundamental question “Who am I?” These organic movement inquiries of SAY helps practitioners to reconnect with pranic flow and cultivate an intuition based on the physical, emotional and intellectual bodies. Appropriate for all levels.

Community Class

Donation based class with reduced price to make yoga available to students of all economic levels. Occasionally taught by instructors auditioning at SSYS.

Stretch & Condition

If you are new to yoga, need to work a bit more gently in class and/or if you are recovering from an injury, have chronic pain, joint issues, or just want to move more intentionally through your practice, Stretching and Conditioning is the class for you. Move your whole body through a series of seated and standing yoga poses designed to increase flexibility, strength, balance and range of movement at a pace that will give you time to comfortably transition between postures (stretches) and teach you how to protect knees, hips and wrists as well as offer other adaptations that may be required.

Mom & Tot

This class is an exciting exploration of movement and play for Moms and Toddlers. Blending creative poses and play to reinforce important development patterns, body awareness, build strength and flexibility in all areas of the body. A great open atmosphere for playing and making new friends.
