“In 2009 after a routine mammogram I was told I had breast cancer which evolved into surgeries, chemo and radiation. All my care was done at the now closed Walter Reed Army Medical Center; my role models who taught me how to survive were our Military Heroes receiving their care; that's another story. Now, breast cancer (in retrospect) was the best thing to happen to me. Hear me out. Between chemo and radiation I asked my Oncologist, CPT Kerns, now what? . . . her reply, yoga. I'm old and afraid if I took yoga I would end up in a twist needing a 911 call! But, I was a good Soldier (albeit, retired) and looked at where I should go to try this recommended yoga. So, when googling and asking for Divine guidance to find the right place, there it was Soaring Spirit Yoga Studio. So, the "Spirit" got me, and the following Saturday I went not knowing what to personally expect. Yet, 2 years later I truly believe in the power of yoga. Who knows what causes cancer; I believe it is stress. Who doesn't have stress; looking back mine was out of control. Yoga has done more for me than words can express. I consider yoga one of the best things that came out of breast cancer along with meeting Nancy and her team. There are other attributes from yoga like knee problems that left, better posture, breathing improves, sleeping better . . . all this and more without pills. HOOAH!!”
